Lecturing Exemption Demand Procedure and Policy: 5. Key, Door, Bridge, Ground

In the previous section I presented the elements that distinguish between Procedure and Policy. Accordingly, Procedures (i) wander around rooms, (ii) are based on keys and doors, whereas Policies (i) wander around islands, (ii) are based on bridges and grounds. In this section I’ll tell “what” the said four metaphoric elements (key, door, bridge, ground) are.

The previous sections observed that Lecturing Exemption should be demanded but that this can’t be performed via an application or a reference. This section will explain the difference between the two basic forms of Lecturing Exemption Demand: Procedure and Policy.

4) The difference between Procedure and Policy

Right from the start: Both Procedure and Policy are differential functions, i.e. both give information only regarding local factors, so that in both cases you may be thinking that you have been progressing locally while you are circling around the same place with regards to the big picture, yet this potential risk is less in Policy in comparison to Procedure, as the locality in Policy is combinatorial, whereas the locality in Procedure is spatial.

The previous section was about the impossibility of applying for a lecturing exemption. This section is about the fact that one cannot ensure lecturing exemption by referring to the relevant authorities.

3) Why Not Reference?

The ultimate destination of any reference is an authority: it’s either an authority that already exists, or an agent that shall obtain authority by virtue of your reference. The conclusiveness of a reference relies on the ability of an authority to assume it.

However, neither can one find an authority to assume Lecturing Exemption References, nor can anyone be authorized on this matter. Lecturing exemption is not secured by a reference.

Dear Kathinka Evers,

I just completed my postdoc work in Boston and I am writing this letter to become a Researcher at the Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics (CRB) in Uppsala University.

I’m submitting this application letter for both announcements, since my essential purpose is to work with you in CRB. To help to clarify my role in CRB, I dedicated a whole section to the questions raised by CRB’s Tasks.

After the U.S. presidency elections, I was already planning to move and work in Uppsala in Sweden. So in December I took the CRB announcements extremely seriously. I worked on this letter during the past few weeks, piece by piece rewriting to concretize the content (especially Section 1). It’s still a rough sketch given the depth of the questions, though I hope to have plenty of time to investigate these questions later.

Letter To the Peoples of Turkey and the World — Semih Özakça

To the Peoples of Turkey and the World;

In our struggle for bread, honour and justice, in order to be the voice of the workers that were dismissed and deprived of their bread by Executive Orders issued with the excuse of the state of exception, in order to go back to our job, we revolutionary democrat public workers are in the 200+ days of our resistance and 80+ days of our hunger strike. We have a single demand “We want our job, our students back!” As intellectuals of the society we were also pursuing our struggle against unfairnesses and injustices before our jobs were terminated. Since 2012, there was an intention to deprive public workers of their job security and abolish permanent positions, we were hearing about it. The current situation we face with the excuse of the state of exception is the product of an idea that was planned and programmed in advance. Thus AKP rule used the state of exception as a justification and grounds for their politics of precarity, they turned the situation into an opportunity and deprived many public workers of their bread with the excuse of the coup attempt. But what does the coup attempt have to do with us revolutionary democrat workers? Those who have to do with the coup are so open that they are now trying to run the country. Because they do their politics using the methods and conspiracies of those they associate with the coup. Why did they dismiss us from our jobs? By dismissing us from our jobs, they were to comb out those who will oppose their politics; they were to do what they want without distress, without annoying obstacles on their way, and they were to suppress all of those who were to oppose them, to prevent the discordant voices. A ruler threatening a people with their bread, trying to discipline them with hunger to rule them, is the end point that’s reached. Bread is sacred, the right to work is the minimum condition of living. What is expected of workers who are deprived of their right to work, whose bread is being played at. To sit and shut up? To resist for the right to live and work? In our case what must be done by necessity is the second option. We resist…

Entropy as a measure of relevance//irrelevance

Entropy Agglomeration (EA) is the most useful algorithm you can imagine. It’s not cited or used only because the established scientific paradigms cannot conceive its meaning.

In fact, the idea is very simple:

In EA, entropy is a measure of relevance//irrelevance.

— Subsets of elements that either appear together or disappear together in the blocks have low entropy: Those elements are “relevant” to each other: They literally “lift up again” each other.

— Subsets of elements that are partly appearing while partly disappearing in the blocks have large entropy: Those elements are “irrelevant” to each other: They literally “don’t lift up again” each other.

EA is a hierarchical clustering algorithm that outputs dendrograms. I have a few examples to show how the outputs look like:

Clustering of (I) plants (II) fungi according to their occurrences in studies on Mycorrhizal fungi.

Clustering of dinosaurs according to the occurrences of their recorded phenotypic characteristics.

Clustering of central wavelengths according to their occurrences in a known set of exoplanets.

Clustering of the well-known Iris dataset. 145/150 of the flowers were successfully clustered. (This last example employs an additional wrapper code that categorizes the numerical features given in the dataset)

There is no march scheduled in Turkey

Craigie, a medical doctor, mentioned as other specific topics of concern the threat to Central European University in Hungary, where the right-wing, populist government has passed legislation that the university says would make it impossible to continue operating in the country, and the crackdown on universities in Turkey, where thousands of academics been fired from their jobs and some jailed since a failed coup attempt last July. There is no march scheduled in Turkey. The March for Science shared the following post on its Twitter account last week about the pressures on Turkish scientists.
